Do you go with a small portable workbench that you can move wherever you need it, or do you go all out and build a large built-in workbench that will fit all of your needs?

It is better to purchase one that is made from wood or steel instead of plastic as it will last much longer.
Build Your Own Workbench
If you can't to seem to find a garage workbench that suits exactly what you want and need, you can always go the route of building your own workbench. To build your own workbench, you can choose to go three different ways. You can buy a workbench kit and simply assemble it, you can customize garage cabinets to create a workbench or you can simply create a workbench from lumber.
There are many different garage workbench kits available for you to purchase and assemble yourself. Like the pre-made workbenches, these particular kits are available in many different shapes, sizes, and materials.
If you want to build your own workbench and you want a built-in look, then it's best to install some garage cabinets in the design that you prefer and add a countertop to the top of them to make a custom workbench.
Futhermore, if functionality is your only concern and you don't care about appearances, then it may be best to build a workbench out of some 2 x 4's and a sheet of plywood. This way, you can do anything you want to your workbench and you won't worry about it getting damaged. If it does, you can always just build another one.
